The Future of UK Academic Finance Roundtable.
We will be having a roundtable discussion as to the future of UK academic finance. This panel discussion will discuss and develop a wider dialogue as to many questions important for UK based academics. For instance, we are currently working through a period when much research produced by UK universities within the finance discipline considers issues distant from the UK. An increasing proportion of academic work has increasingly targeted US based journals which are so highly valued within the ABS list. Subsequently studies of UK institutions and markets are few and declining in number, limiting their utility to the considerable number of UK users of financial research. Many studies embrace techniques and concepts developed within other nations and deemed appropriate to many non-UK highly ranked journals, limiting how UK specific issues and debates are addressed, such as the declining number of theoretical and conceptual studies generated. Is injecting greater plurality and originality into this literature is essential to ensure the future relevance of UK finance. Alternatively, is this issue a parochial exercise ignoring the increasingly international scope of finance and the increasing irrelevance of national systems when researching financial markets and institutions. The panel will conclude by considering how we, as academics should navigate the current research environment.
Call for Papers
Deadline: 12 July 2024
We are pleased to invite academics, researchers, PhD students and professionals to submit research papers for presentation at the conference of the BAFA Financial Markets and Institutions Special Interest Group.
Established in 2007, the Financial Markets and Institutions Special Interest Group brings together academics with research and scholarly interests in financial markets and institutions, broadly defined. The group is inclusive by nature and open to contributions on financial markets and institutions from a range of disciplinary perspectives. We hope this forum can provide UK based opportunities to assist new and prospective academics together with more established scholars.
Submission Guidelines
Submission of full papers will be considered in areas of Finance, Accountancy, Actuarial Science, Banking and other cognate fields. The conference is friendly and supportive in tenor and an early expression of interest is encouraged to avoid disappointment. We actively encourage new researchers and PhD students to present their work at the conference.
There are no strict style guidelines for the conference, but please ensure that all figures and tables are provided along with submissions in an accessible form and that work is fully referenced using one of the main accepted methods (e.g. Harvard, APA etc.)
Please forward all submissions for consideration to m.j.rhodes@leedsbeckett.ac.uk. The deadline is 12 July 2024.
